Nails
Increased nail thickness, thinning of nails, brittle nails, change of colour in nails, ingrowing toe nails. Nails in good health are shiny and have a colour that is uniform throughout. As you become older, you could find that your nails become a little more brittle or that you start to develop vertical ridges. This does not pose any danger. Injuries should cause spots to disappear as the nail grows out. Injuries to the fingers and hands, viral warts (periungual warts), infections (onychomycosis), and some drugs, such as those used for chemotherapy, can all lead to abnormalities, such as spots, discoloration, and detachment of the nail plate. Alterations in the look of your fingernails may also be a symptom of some medical disorders. On the other hand, the implications of these shifts are not always clear. It is not possible to diagnose a specific condition based solely on the appearance of your fingernails. This information, in conjunction with your other symptoms and the results of a physical exam, will be used by a doctor to make a diagnosis.
