Fungal Nail Infections

Description: Nails become discolored, thickened, and brittle due to fungal growth.
Causes: Fungal organisms (dermatophytes), moisture, poor hygiene, or trauma.
Common Symptoms: Yellowing, thickening, brittleness, crumbling edges.
Diagnosis: Clinical evaluation; KOH mount or fungal culture for confirmation.
Treatment Options: Topical antifungal creams, oral antifungal medications, nail debridement.

Thickened or Brittle Nails

Description: Nails lose normal strength or texture, often from injury, infection, or aging.
Causes: Trauma, chronic infections, nutritional deficiencies, aging.
Common Symptoms: Fragile, splitting, rough, or discolored nails.
Diagnosis: Clinical examination and history; sometimes lab tests for underlying conditions.

Ingrown Nails

Description: Nails grow into surrounding skin, causing pain, swelling, or infection.

Diagnosis: Physical examination by a dermatologist or podiatrist.
